A childhood spent near Forcalquier in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region has forged Muriel Ughetto's character and her taste for authentic worlds.
A father of Italian origin, a mother of Spanish origin.
Italy will remain her other country of heart, with a deep attachment, no doubt linked to her wonderful grandfather from Piedmont, a region where she was also able to play as a child...
Added to all this is his African heritage, which throughout her career has given her creations a unique signature.
A very young designer, in 1993 she launched her first collection of lighting and textiles, in which natural materials played a prominent role.
Alongside this first line, marketed under the brand name "D'ici et d'Ailleurs", she developed several ranges in other sectors, in particular scents, which were booming at the time.
Winner of a "Découvertes" award at the "Maison et Objet" show in 1997, she also took part in the very first "Vivre Côté Sud" show in Saint-Tropez.
In the fast-changing hotel sector, Muriel worked with the Relais et Châteaux chain and developed product ranges for Alain Ducasse, Anne Sophie Pic and Bernard Loiseau.
She has also worked on projects for Club Med, restaurants and casinos, and designed objects for Guerlain, among others.
At the same time, she is developing her expertise in set design for events such as the Cannes Film Festival, private parties and product launches.
In 2005, she returned with a new collection which she exhibited at the first Projects session on “Maison & Objet”.
Its textile collection celebrates the skills of embroidery, featherwork, trimmings, lace and other methods used to ennoble textiles.
This “haute couture” collection has met with real international success and has let her to collaborate with major architectural firms.
Delicate research on the marriage of crystal and textiles, applied to furniture and lighting, in collaboration with Swarovski, gave birth to the “L’éclat du mat” collection, presented in turn in the Projects area of the Maison & Objet trade fair in 2008.
In 2013, she decided to take a professional break to devote herself to a major project: the restoration of a recently acquired farmhouse, in a very personal spirit, and at the same time, the architectural design of her first contemporary house, a true expression of her style.
Situated in the hills above Cannes, the "So What"project, long concrete parallelepiped, as if suspended on a hillside, combines Muriel's architectural and lifestyle requirements.
Her aim: to create a link with the surrounding natural environment from every room. It's a technical and graphic challenge, each time linking the inside to the outside with subtlety and harmony.
Large openings, of course, but also a work of proportion and subtle arrangement of the green spaces. Each plot in the garden has been designed by Muriel like a painting that can be seen from the outside and admired from the inside.
This extremely enriching experience gave rise to the desire and almost the need for a new collection.
Her eye even sharper by this extraordinary project, aware more than ever of the richness of belonging to a dual culture which, she says, has shaped the balance in her perception of things, she puts down on paper a series of lighting, furniture, textiles, which she intends to have manufactured as locally as possible and in the most ethical and virtuous way possible.
A highly technical but poetic collection, which advocates craftsmanship, combining natural materials such as glass, earth and wood, softened by feathers, silk, wool, cotton, linen and hemp...
Lines with distinct styles, some with strong ethnic and African influences, others with a more feminine, slightly bohemian inspiration, more plant-based and floral.
It's all based around the family of blacks, browns and whites, and... green, always green, always green - her favourite colour.
Designing an object is exciting, but the ultimate accomplishment is mastering its realization.
It is in our Mougins workshop that we ensure the development and manufacture, in whole or in part, of our creations.
This mastery is an invaluable luxury that allows us to adapt our products and offer “custom-made” creations for certain projects.
